Casting Process
Casting is a manufacturing process that pours a liquid material into a hollow mold until the material cools into a solidified shape.
A material in a liquid or semisolid form is poured or forced to flow into a die cavity and allowed to solidify, thus taking the solid shape of the cavity CASTING - Basics - The process can be applied on metals and plastics The term casting is commonly used for metals and the term molding is used for plastics
Examples: door handles, locks, the outer casing or housing for motors, pumps, wheels of many cars, toy cars, Automobile sectors most of the parts made from casting process.
Some most used Casting Processes: -
Sand Casting: This is one of the oldest and most widely used casting processes. It involves creating a mold made of sand and then pouring molten metal into the mold cavity. Once the metal solidifies, the casting is removed from the mold.
Die Casting: In this process, molten metal is forced into a mold cavity under high pressure. Die casting is known for producing parts with high dimensional accuracy and smooth surface finishes. It is commonly used for manufacturing automotive parts.
Investment Casting: Also known as lost-wax casting, this process involves creating a wax pattern of the desired object, coating it with a ceramic shell, and then heating the shell to remove the wax. Molten metal is then poured into the mold, and once it solidifies, the ceramic shell is broken away to reveal the final casting
